The training and networking experiences provided through SWEL are invaluable. Without a doubt, my experiences as a SWEL student provided a pathway to my current career
— Lisa M. Kathumbi, Esq., Bricker & Eckler

A SWEL experience is more than just a summer job.  Once you become a SWEL student, you become part of the SWEL family. You'll receive guidance and support, develop your professional and personal skills and gain a better understanding and respect for the many opportunities within the legal community.

Develop Personal and Professional Skills
As a SWEL intern you will have the opportunity to develop your personal and professional skills through on the job training and Friday forums. Whether creating your personal learning objective statement, visiting a law school campus, attending an LSAT preparation and feedback session, discussing your financial strategy for law school; or working on your written and oral skills; you will gain a great deal in your summer internship with SWEL.

Gain an Increased Awareness of the Legal Field
Often times students are not aware of the many practice areas of the law or the skills and required abilities of the legal profession.  Students will gain an increased awareness of the legal profession by working directly with judges, attorneys and legal staff.

Provide a "Bottom Line" Benefit to A Professional Organization
Although your internship will be a great learning experience for you, it is also a good time to "show off" your knowledge, skills and abilities.  Are you a quick learner?  Do you have excellent research skills?  Have your instructors complimented you on your writing and oral communication skills?  If so, you can use those skills to contribute to your internship site.

Develop Your Professional Network
As you continue your education and professional journey, you will find that networking and developing professional contacts are as valuable as internships.   SWEL will expose students to a vast cross section of legal professionals such as bar association presidents, judges and attorneys, which in turn will offer them the opportunity to make lasting relationships in the Greater Cincinnati and Dayton legal communities.

One of the things I appreciated most about my summer work experience in law was the endless opportunities, positions of leadership, and networking events.
